Project
Three : The Visual Representation of Statistical Data
Project
Requirements
Your third
project will be to construct two visual representations of statistical
data. Using the sources for educational research, find a small set of
data and construct two graphics:
1. a
graph in normal form (bar graph, pie chart, line graph) that will
be used in a professional presentation at a conference,
OR
2. a
graphic that uses an innovative approach to portraying that information
that will be used in USA Today.
Both
graphs should reflect professionalism in design.
The requirements
of this project are:
- Image
sizes: Width for each image must be between 600 and 650 pixels wide
and not to exceed 600 pixels high.
- Each graph
must use a color scheme (and neutrals).
- Each graph
should reflect a well-planned layout:
- consistency
in type
- appropriate
sizing: title or question larger than graphic information; key,
if necessary, relatively out of the way and smaller than graph or
chart; dominant graph or chart
- balanced
graphics and information
- Supporting
information about the data - the original source - must also be included.
- The graphs
must be created and drawn be the student, but objects used in the graph
may be from other sources such as scanned from a book or saved from
the Web. The bibliographic source for the image, however, must be noted
in full, and handed in with this project.
The Evaluation
Matrix will be constructed in class.
