Director John Huston makes his last film, The Dead.
MTV and music videos make Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, U2 and others famous.

Politics:
George Shultz, Oliver North, John Poindexter, Casper Weinberger testify to Congress about the Iran-Contra affair.
Soviet Secretary Gorbachev and President Reagan sign the INF treaty to reduce nuclear stockpiles.
Klaus Barbie, Nazi leader is convicted of World War II crimes.

Technology:
March 1987, The Mac II is introduced as the expandable Mac, selling for $3,898.

Based on the new 68020 processor, the Mac II was the first 32-bit Mac.
The Mac II was the first Mac with color capabilities 256 colors or shades of gray--a graphics card could be installed capable of handling up to 16.7 million colors!

April - Apple created Claris, its software division.

August - Apple engineer designed HyperCard(in many ways a predecessor to the Web), software that makes developing in-house applications simpler. It is standard on all Macs until 1992.

Macintosh SE introduced with two internal floppies or internal hard drive
No beige: Apple abandoned beige for platinum, a businesslike gray.
