World War II Technology Mid 1930s - 1940s Konrad Zuse - Designed, developed, and in 1936 built the Z1 - the first binary digital computer in the world. Zuse continued his efforts and five years later built the Z3 - the first fully functional, program-controlled electromechanical digital computer. John Mauchly - Developed the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC).
