Even
though the principles of color mixing allow artists to describe
a variety of hues, there are a large number of colors that are
omitted . One such group of colors is the neutral colors, in which
all three primaries exist in equal amounts -- in other words,
black, white, and gray.
The
reason grays are referred to as neutral colors is because they
have no real character of their own and instead absorb character
from the colors that surround them.
