color mapping, 8 bit or less. Done to reduce graphics to their
smallest size.
Image
Data
representing a two-dimensional scene. A digital image is composed
of pixels arranged in a rectangular array with a certain height
and width. Each pixel may consist of one or more bits of information,
representing the brightness of the image at that point and possibly
including color information encoded as RGB triples.
Image
Formats
There
are many formats used to store images in files. GIF and JPEG are
the most commonly used image formats for Web and multimedia images.
EPS and TIFF are formats used for graphics to be printed in brochures,
posters, business cards, etc. Other formats include BIFF, BMP,
IFF, NFF, OFF, PCX, PICT, PNG, TGA, XBM.
