Pont of
view
by Shannon Amerson
In our class
pages, Point Of View is defined as the relationship between the composition
creator and the composition; also the relationship between the viewer
and the subject.
I looked long and hard for "artsy" references for my element
of design. The best references I came upon did not always include or come
from an art background. I think my element can be defined and explained
in many ways other then just an art definition, and so I put all my research
together and came up with what you will read below.
Point of
view can be affected by many things, ranging from the angle you look at
something, to how you are feeling when you look at something, to experiences
in the past and how you relate to them when looking at something or even
present circumstances can dictate the effect something has on you when
you view it.
When I started
this project, I was going to do my project from my dog's point of view
and show his view on the world. However, 2 days after the assignment was
given, I was struck with a personal tragedy and I wanted to document how
it is affecting my life and the point of view of that. My 16 month old
niece became critically ill and is still in ICU at Texas Children's Hospital.
My project will show the past 2 weeks from my point of view.
www.hollywoodjesus.com did a review on the movie "Passion" that
Mel Gibson is filming. The movie focuses on the 12 hours of Jesus' life
leading to his crucifixion. In the movie, Jesus speaks Latin and Aramaic
without the aid of subtitles. When Mr. Gibson was asked about using "dead
languages" and the fact that nobody would understand, he explained
that the pictures would explain what people couldn't understand. It was
Mr. Gibson's point of view that what he was trying to portray was best
conveyed in its original language, and that the graphical interpretation
would be enough.
A vantage
point or viewpoint is the point from which the artist seems to be looking
when he/she creates the scene or image, or the photographer takes the
picture

picture was taken from the street level, and cropped and expanded
using photoshop. This is THE BEST children's hospital in the world.

This
is a picture of Kiersten and I the day before she got sick. Life is
good. |
| Kiersten
went into surgery to have the diseased part of her intestine taken
out, and while in surgery, her internal organs all shut down. Looking
at my baby in this condition was one of the hardest things I have
ever lived through. |
 |
|
|
This
was Kiersten's point of view after the surgery. Eyes closed and paralyzed,
she sees nothingness. |
| Waiting
for my turn to go in and check on my baby girl. Looking down the hall
and hoping the next person coming through that door is with my family,
so I may go into the room. Only 2 people are allowed at a time at
the bedside in ICU. |

This
is what we saw looking up from the street. Even the skies are grey.
I really liked this point of view. |
